Description

Composed for the rededication of a one manual 19th-century instrument (1881 E. & G.G. Hook, op. 1047) in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Boston. In recognition of the organs's new site — the Cathedral's Chapel of the Blessed Sacrement — the thematic material is derived from chants appointed for the Feast of Corpus Christi: Lauda Sion (I. Introit, V. Postlude), Pange lingua (II. Offertory, IV. Communion), and Te Deum (III. Elevation).

Commission

Leo Abbot, "in memory of the Rev. Msgr. Francis J. lally"

First performance

1995 Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Boston / Leo Abbott, organist

"…The Gregorian phrases are beautifully organic to the supple texture of these pieces, reminiscent of Duruflé." —The Journal of the Association of Anglican Musicians
